Event Description
Opening Reception: Friday, July 13 from 7 to 9 p.m.
This exhibition features works by Leigh Davis Smith and Nick Madden — two artists teaching art to young children who are not shy to claim their students as their greatest influences. Both Smith and Madden are primarily showing works they've made in the last year, which for both has focused on responding more directly and deeply to the work they do. Madden's paintings mirror the assignments he asks his students to complete, and Smith's drawings and comics often tell the stories that play out in her classroom. Last month each artist went on summer vacation shortly after their students’ last days and returned with new works — mountains and landscapes that are also a part of the teaching life the artists seek to capture. The exhibit shows these alongside the more directly classroom-inspired pieces.
