Event Description

Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

At this attraction, visitors can take a stirring journey through time and sit at the center of a sweeping panorama of the Battle of Atlanta, fought on July 22, 1864, during the American Civil War. The Cyclorama painting — 42 feet tall and 358 feet in circumference — is said to be the largest painting in the world. It offers breathtaking realism enhanced by a foreground of three-dimensional figures and terrain. The presentation is accompanied by music and narration available in five languages. Visitors can also see artifacts from the war displayed in the Civil War Museum and a steam locomotive known as Texas, a veteran of the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862. Tour guides conduct 40-minute tours of the facility every hour on the half hour from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; there is no guided tour at 12:30 p.m.

Listen to John Lemley and Myke John's feature on the history of the Atlanta Cyclorama that aired on WABE 90.1FM's "City Café."
