City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs Public Art Program Seeking Artists
3/10/2011
The City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs Public Art Program (OCA/PAP) has partnered with Underground Atlanta to launch Elevate / Art Above Underground, an event that promises to transform central downtown Atlanta. Artists and art collaborators are invited to apply for support grants to develop or present temporary art projects along the upper Alabama street corridor and throughout locations in central downtown Atlanta. A letter of interest, current CV or resume, and images of past work is all that is needed to apply.
Application deadline is 5 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2011.
Projects for interior and exterior public spaces along the Upper Alabama Street Corridor and surrounding areas are requested. This event’s goal is to stimulate the production of art in downtown Atlanta and serve as a platform for artists and art collaborators to exhibit during the months of August, September and October. Projects that are innovative, demonstrate vision, and have the potential to build an audience are desired. The event organizers have arranged for participants to take advantage of available store fronts, outdoor amphitheaters, and walkable spaces in and around the Upper Alabama Street area. The location is easily accessible from MARTA and incorporates the Atlanta Visitors Center.
OCA/PAP will award project grants from $500 to $5,000 with no fixed number of projects designated. They will also work to encourage support from local businesses and funding agencies. This is a rare opportunity for artists and art collaborators to immerse in the development of a new and exciting cultural initiative that promises to bring fun and excitement to central downtown Atlanta.
